Volvo Construction Equipment launches new wheel loaders

Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) is introducing three new wheel loaders, giving Volvo CE the most modern fleet of general purpose wheel loaders on the market.

New engines, transmissions and cabs are some of the highlights of the latest L60F, L70F and L90F medium duty general purpose wheel loaders from Volvo CE. All models have increased power over the E variant they replace, giving more strength to move earth or load gravel. The Tier III compliant Volvo engines delivers high torque and low fuel consumption. With Volvo Advanced Combustion Technology (V-ACT) they meet the latest emission standards, Tier III.

The new Care Cab that is fitted to the L60F, L70F and L90F is the safest, most comfortable and cleanest operator environment ever made by Volvo CE. In addition to being flexible, productive, safe, comfortable and reliable, the all-new L60F, L70F and L90F are also environmentally minded, being up to 95% recyclable.

Volvo CE meets increased demand with global investment program

The need to satisfy increased worldwide demand and reduce the amount of time that customers have to wait for their machines to be delivered are the driving forces for a package of investments Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) has announced. Totaling over $55 million, the production facilities in Braås and Eskilstuna, Sweden and Asheville, US will be the focus of much of the spending, and lead to a considerable increase in production output.

The investment in the Braås facility will see 25% more articulated haulers being produced by the end of 2007, increasing output to 4000 machines. With global demand for articulated haulers currently at an all time high and expectations that this product concept will continue to find new customers in developing markets, sales are expected to continue to increase. This investment is needed to respond to this positive development.
Volvo CE is the worldwide leader in articulated haulers, and the increased output of the Braås factory is hoped to not only meet current demand but also win an even bigger share of the market in the future. The investment also brings with it the welcome news that around 100 new employees will be recruited to cope with the additional output.

Investments will also be directed at increasing output of Volvo CE’s cab factory in Hallsberg, Sweden, as well as at its components facility in Eskilstuna, Sweden, with a particular focus on boosting production of transmission systems.

As announced earlier this month, Volvo CE’s Asheville factory will begin building excavators as well as wheel loader and excavator cabs by the middle of 2007. The plant, in North Carolina, USA, will receive a cash injection of $25 million to increase its fabrication and assembly capabilities in order to meet growing requirements in the local excavator market. The trend to build excavators in locations other than Volvo CE’s core excavator factory in Korea has already proven successful, with production now also in China and Germany. The 40,000 m2 Asheville plant will build four of Volvo CE’s 11 excavator models – the
EC160B, EC210B, EC330B, and the EC360B, for delivery to customers in the US and Canada. The manufacturing facility will continue to produce five of the 10 models of Volvo wheel loaders.

“This investment helps to ‘future proof’ us against the increasing demand that we expect for Volvo CE products in the coming years,” says Tony Helsham, Volvo CE’s president and chief executive. “Not only will we be able to get more of our most popular products into the market, but we will be able to reinforce our responsiveness to customer needs and deliver products faster while still maintaining high quality.”

Flagship Volvo CE wheel loader set to boost performance figures

If a company’s product offering is determined by the reputation of the biggest and strongest product in the range, then Volvo CE can rest easy knowing that its forthcoming flagship L350F wheel loader will set the standard of heavy wheel loaders in the market. Replacing the outgoing L330E, the L350F will be launched in the first half of 2007 and offer improvements in all major performance categories.

The prospects for success in the market for the L350F look good, as the market – in the shape of customers and operators – have been instrumental in the development process of the new machine. And once satisfied that the design was right, pre-production variants of the L350F have undergone the most comprehensive testing programme ever of any Volvo wheel loader in many different real site applications.

While many of the details have yet to be released what can be announced now are some of the headline details associated with the new product. Among these is the fact that the L350F will offer much higher productivity leading to a massive improvement in fuel efficiency compared with the outgoing L330E model. The source of these improvements largely lies in the combination of the L350F’s new Tier 3/Stage III Volvo engine, stronger hydraulics, a new Volvo transmission with lock-up and new axles. As a result, the new model will be easier and more comfortable to operate, leading to faster cycle times and sustained high performance throughout the work day, thanks to reduced operator fatigue.

In fact the operator environment takes a significant step forward with the introduction of the L350F. Fitted with a larger Volvo Care Cab, the operator will enjoy a more spacious air conditioned interior that is insulated from noise, dust and vibrations – the latter thanks to viscous cab mounts and air suspended seat. The cab is also safer, being approved to ISO requirements and thanks to the provision of anti-slip surfaces and handrails, among many other features.

The L350F will also be offered in three application focused variants – for block and timber handling and bucket work, the latter in long boom version.

With the forthcoming launch of the L350F from Volvo CE, more power, more torque, more load capacity and faster cycle times are set to be joined with improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions.
